Our produce takes root at local farms

When you take a bite out of a fresh, juicy strawberry, you’re not just giving your body a sweet, vitamin-packed treat — you’re also supporting local! Buying fruits and veggies with a local label supports farmers in our own backyard. We’re proud to source some of our produce selection from berry growers in Florida, and vegetables from Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. It doesn’t get more local than that!

And buying those berries can have a big impact. Because purchasing local produce supports farmers, the local economy, the agriculture industry and the surrounding community.

Publix has proudly worked with local suppliers across our operating area since our start more than 90 years ago. And to help further support these efforts, we’ve added special tags to products sourced nearby, from locally roasted coffee to seafood, produce, meat and seasonings. Adding the flavors of home to your plate has never been so easy.

So, go ahead and add some backyard favorites to your cart on your next shopping trip. Supporting local has never tasted so sweet.

The power’s in the flower

Did you know those ruby-red Florida strawberries don’t start out red at all? In fact, they don’t even start out as berries! The plant first sprouts small, white flowers. Then, it grows “runners,” which develop into additional plants. When the berries begin to form, they start out small and green, then turn red as they become ripe.
