Building our Publix legacy, brick by brick

It’s been more than 90 years since Mr. George opened his first Publix store in Winter Haven, Florida. Since then, we’ve grown to be in 7 states and operate a whopping 1,281 stores. But not all Publix stores are built alike.

In honor of our anniversary in September, let’s visit some of our most unique stores: from historic distilleries to boat docks to our latest endeavors.

#1095, Columbia, South Carolina

We gave an old building a new lease on life when we took over this store in 2004. Originally built in 1862, it was first a Confederate Mint that was used to print money during the Civil War before becoming a distillery. The location has even found a home on the National Register of Historic Places.

#1149, Treasure Island, Florida

Set sail from Publix and embrace the Florida lifestyle when you visit this store on the Gulf Coast, complete with its own boat dock.

#621, Miami

While you can’t drop anchor in the parking lot of this Publix, you can still feel like a sailor. The creative boat design truly embodies the culture of Miami and has won numerous awards.

#1211, Nashville, Tennessee

We leveled up with this store — literally. This Nashville-based Publix was the first store to have below-ground parking!

#1721, Tampa, Florida

Our newest Publix GreenWise Market is on the ground level of a residential and retail tower in the bustling Water Side District in Tampa, Florida. The facade adds to the upscale environment for patrons in the area.

#1734, Lakeland, Florida

This store has outdoor balcony seating — so you can enjoy your favorite Publix treats right outside!
