Caught in the wild

More and more consumers are recognizing the benefits of seafood and making it a regular part of their household diet.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has reported the United States ranked 2nd in the world after China in seafood consumption. Americans ate an estimated 6.3 billion pounds of seafood in 2019.

While the majority of seafood consumed is farm-raised, Publix works with fisheries around the world to offer an extensive variety of both fresh and frozen wild-caught seafood. We also offer customers dozens of wild seafood items caught and processed in the U.S.

“We understand the importance of sourcing domestically,” said Business Development Director of Seafood Guy Pizzuti. “So we work to get the best wild-caught seafood available for our customers.”

Straight from their natural habitats, wild-caught seafood is a good source of protein, omega-3s, essential nutrients and minerals — all important for a balanced diet. Publix has made it easy to differentiate our seafood with signs that tell customers whether the seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised, and which varieties of seafood are sustainably and responsibly sourced. We also carry frozen wild-caught seafood under the Publix and GreenWise brands.

Next time you’re in Publix, visit the seafood case to find a wide variety of wild-caught seafood and bring the wild home!
