Whether you’re at work or at home, we want you to be safe at all times. There are a few things you can do to prevent injuries from happening to you or your loved ones. Here are three steps to Keep It Safe & Sound (KISS).
1. Prevent slips, trips and falls
At work — Stay with a spill until it’s cleaned up, rather than leaving it to get supplies. Report leaks, and keep aisles and exits clear.
At home — Install non-slip mats or appliques in tubs, tape or tack down area rugs to the floor, and ditch the clutter.
2. Prevent strains
At work — Use wheeled equipment to move multiple or heavy items, lift with your legs rather than your back, and don’t hesitate to ask for help for objects that are too heavy.
At home — Avoid exercising when tired or in pain, make sure to warm up and stretch prior to physical activity, wear shoes that fit, and maintain a healthy weight.
3. Eliminate fire hazards
At work — Be sure electrical cords are in good condition with no exposed wires or cracks in the insulation. Electrical tape is not an acceptable remedy.
At home — Check the batteries in all your smoke detectors, don’t overload your outlets, avoid leaving lit candles unattended, remove lint from your dryer after every cycle, don’t allow smoking inside, and store combustibles (paint, gasoline, etc.) properly.
