Stay focused on staying safe

Prevention Plus

You know that expression — trust your gut? It basically means, if you have a feeling something is wrong or unusual, you’re probably right.

It’s important to always keep an eye out for dangers that may sneak up on you — whether at work or home. And by being alert and paying attention to your surroundings, you can practice situational awareness wherever you are. At times, you may feel too busy to notice what’s going on around you, and that’s when even the most preventable injuries can happen.

Being aware of your surroundings can help you see hazards coming before you or anyone else is injured. Here are a few ways you can improve your situational awareness skills and keep yourself safe.

  • Locate the exits, including fire exits, each time you enter a new building.
  • Know what equipment or machines are running in your area at work or when out in public.
  • Remind yourself to periodically look down, even if you’re standing still, so you can spot spills or debris on the ground.

Publix cares about your well-being, no matter where you are. Keep yourself accountable for avoiding danger and staying safe by practicing situational awareness at all times.
