A history of success and a bright future ahead

Managers gathered in Orlando, Florida, at our annual Retail Operations Conference (ROC) in November to hear company leaders review our recent successes and plans for 2024.

CEO (now Executive Chairman) Todd Jones talked about Mr. George’s philosophy and our consistent Publix strategy.

Mr. George’s philosophy is where the Publix culture began. He wanted to run a better supermarket than our competitors. This philosophy became the framework for operational decisions and led the company through many historical events.

It also continues to encourage innovation in our stores and processes.

Our strategy continues to stand the test of time. Our approach hasn’t wavered. With the same strategy and the right execution, we will continue to have successful results. And at the core of our strategy is Publix people. Our associates have made our company what it is today and will drive future success.

“We have amazing associates who are committed to doing amazing work every day,” said Todd. “Our future is bright!”

One part of that bright future is growth. We ended 2023 with more than 35 net new stores, including several replacement stores. In 2024, we begin operating in a new state, Kentucky.

“But even with the nicest stores, it’s our associates who breathe life into them,” said President (now CEO) Kevin Murphy. “A Publix isn’t a Publix without Publix people.”

With growth comes new opportunities. If you want to grow your career at Publix, talk to your manager about available openings or training to build new skills. Whether you’re interested in being a part of Publix’s operation in a new state or learning a new department through cross-training, you could help shape our future.

“Thanks to everyone working together as One Publix with One Purpose, this has been a successful year,” said Kevin. “I’m proud of each of you and appreciate your dedication to helping Publix remain where shopping is a pleasure.”

New roles announced

At ROC, it was announced that effective Jan. 1, 2024, CEO Todd Jones would become Executive Chairman; President Kevin Murphy would be promoted to CEO, and Senior Vice President John Goff would be promoted to President.

“Todd has been an outstanding leader,” said Chairman Emeritus Ed Crenshaw. “He has been committed to continuing Publix’s success and passionate about the development and promotion of our associates. We’re pleased he will continue to provide leadership to our company as executive chairman.”

“We are delighted to have leaders with the experience of Kevin and John who are ready to take the next steps in their careers,” said Todd. “I am confident in their ability to lead our company into the future and to continue to make Publix a great place to shop for our customers and a great place to work for our associates.”
