Assistant Pharmacy Manager Koreen Sanders, #1664, Daytona Beach, Florida, proves her customers are more to her than just a prescription.
When Koreen moved from the West Coast of the United States 6 years ago, she was already well aware of Publix’s reputation and knew she wanted in.
“As soon as I moved, I started applying and looking for a position at Publix Pharmacy because I knew this was the 1st company that matched my sense of caring,” said Koreen. “It’s more than business to us. We care about the people we serve and the associates we work alongside.”
Around the time she started at Publix, Koreen met a couple who came in for prescriptions and immediately connected with them. The husband was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and his wife was the main caregiver. Koreen knew that was a huge undertaking and that sometimes the caregiver needed to be cared for too.
“When we walk beside people, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day responsibilities that we have, but it is so important to remember there are people behind every prescription,” said Koreen.
After the husband succumbed to his illness in 2020, Koreen knew the newly-widowed customer needed more than just a pharmacist.
“When you are on a journey with people going through those difficult times in their lives, sometimes they need someone to listen and simply reach out and touch their hand,” said Koreen. “We can make such an impact by doing things that may seem small to us but leave a lasting impression on our communities. Publix encourages that, which is why I am so proud to serve as a pharmacist here.”
