Frances “Goose” Bentley has been a safe driver with Publix for over 20 years.
What do you think contributes to Publix’s safety culture?
Publix emphasizes safety by taking care of its trucks, trailers and other equipment. We also have quarterly safety meetings to keep us informed and remind us of safety practices like always wearing our safety vests.
How do you prepare for a day on the road?
I get plenty of rest and a good breakfast, so I’m alert and engaged. And while I eat breakfast, I read a Bible verse to help start my day. When I get to work, I perform a thorough safety check on the truck and trailer to ensure everything is in good shape.
What skills do you find most useful in your current role?
I’m proud to be a 20-year safe driver. Being attentive, patient and aware of my surroundings at all times is crucial. And it helps to have a routine when picking up and dropping off my trailer.
How do you represent Publix’s values in the community?
I’ve helped out at numerous charity events over the years, such as Feed the Homeless. I try to help those less fortunate through mission trips and my church’s nursing home ministry. I’m also preparing to minister to incarcerated women. I take pride in both shopping at and working for Publix, and I share that with others.
What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I love to travel. Maybe take a cruise, go camping or fishing. I’m also very active in my church. I support the homeless ministry and other causes.
What’s your favorite Publix product?
It’s more of a meal than a product. My go-to is the ultimate sub with mesquite barbecue chips and sweet tea.
