Mr. George Gold Coin Award recipient Marvin Harris has been driving with Publix for 8 years.
What do you think contributes to Publix’s safety culture?
Publix policies and procedures keep us safe. I always strive to ensure I’m operating safely at the store and on the road.
How do you prepare for a day on the road?
I do a thorough safety check on the truck and trailer to ensure everything is working properly. Then, I clear my mind and conscience so I can focus on the road.
What skills do you find most useful in your current role?
As a truck driver, it’s important to know how to multitask because there’s a lot of technique involved. I have good depth perception and am a defensive driver. Preparation is also key — thinking ahead about a turn, backing up or different maneuvers can help keep everyone safe.
How do you represent Publix’s values in the community?
I recently received the Mr. George Gold Coin Award. On my route, I noticed trees had fallen during a storm and blocked the road. Instead of watching and waiting, I helped police officers remove the trees. When I see a need, I jump in to help.
What’s your favorite Publix memory?
I enjoy going to stores and meeting people. One time, another driver and I arrived at a store at the same time, so we helped each other unload our trucks.
What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I’m dedicated to my kids and family. I take my kids to the park or the family on a vacation. To relax my mind, I also like to play video games.
What’s your favorite Publix product?
